SENIOR POETRY COMPETITION

          3RD PLACE

                                               All the Right Reasons

It was time for it to end,
We couldn’t go on, living a lie,
The bridge we built burned, for we had to fend
For ourselves, it was for the best, but no matter how hard we try,

Fate will always interfere, it’s the unlucky roll
 The unfortunate toss,
 proclaiming loss,
From both sides, the consequences terrible toll

On the both of us, though it’s for the best,
Everything we did and were about to do is now laid to rest,
Covered in dust, in a room full of cobwebs,
Memories of the lies we lived trapped underneath the tephra.

But it was for all the right reasons, was it not?
Stopping the other achieve what they truly could?
Proves to me that this bridge was extremely misunderstood,
By the both of us, how we wrought

 To make the other second,
To prove that every duo has a sidekick, to assert the point that one of us was chief.
Thinking about it, do you reckon
The final fight we had, was it some sort of relief?
Breaking away from the toxic beliefs
We instilled in the other’s mind?

This was done for all the right reasons
The bridge burned, saving us both
From grief and heartbreak which would last throughout the seasons,
So, all I can do now is apologise and live a life without loathe,
For there’s nothing more to think about, it was for the best,
May all the memories we made, both toxic and not, be laid to rest.

 I’m sorry.
