The sound came from under her father’s desk. Instinctively she knew
what it was. She knelt to
confirm her fears.
A bomb was placed there. This was all a distraction.
She ran towards the bomb. It was a small box which looks like a metal
box. she opened the lid and saw different wires with colours she had
never seen before. She had diffused bombs before but not a bomb
with colours like this.
“I’m sorry, Mum and Dad but I don’t know how to diffuse this bomb.”
The bomb started beeping faster and faster------
10, 9, 8, 7, 6--
The beeping stopped, a girl swooped in and cut an orange wire. It was
her sister. The girl was in her mid-teens, with pitch-black hair and
cherry red cheeks. She looked at them triumphantly. It was her sister.
Falcon smiled in relief. Her sister looked at her parents who were
laying in a protective position, “Remember you sent me for an
internship with the bomb squad? I learnt it there.”
“Elena?” Falcon asked as her sister nodded, “It's good to see you!”
“You too,” she said, “the last time I saw you was when I was six.”
Then Falcon saw a glimpse of her past, where she was overpressured
by her father to act to his stature to become a future politician. She
ran away because he wanted her to be something she was not.
“Right now I am something I am not. I never wanted to be a
mercenary”, she thought.
She got up and walked towards her parents who were still huddled
for protection.
“You can get up now,” she said, “We have to leave.”
She glanced at her clock. It was 8 pm. She had two hours more.
----------------------
She entered her apartment which was in downtown Toronto, she had
deliberately taken her
parents through the subway from Kipling to Museum station as it was
safer to go in a crowd
than go by car.
One hour to go.
She unlocked the door when the gunfire came out. It was Hollow
himself. She shot his shooting
arm and watched as it went lifeless and numb.
