In Art Society we create an environment that promotes creativity and innovation as we
encourage all of our members to explore and develop their own creative skills with the support
of the art department teachers, Mr. Monty (Teacher in charge), Mr. Sandun, Mrs. Manjusri
and Mr. Gayan who actively help all of our members to build new skills and improve on
existing ones. Our members have worked on various projects including a couple of hand sewn
pieces and other graphic art projects. We have also continuously encouraged our members to
participate in competitions both in school and out of school for which members have
participated with great enthusiasm. The concept of “Painting with Passion” was also
introduced this year, through which members where encourage to work on and experiment
with the components of art and craft they are most comfortable with, to hopefully produce an
extraordinary product that explored various styles and perspectives of art. All in all, Art
Society is a platform on which anyone, ranging from professional level artists to absolute
beginners can enjoy experimenting and tweaking their creative fluids.
This year taught us that Drama isn’t something that only involves acting on stage, but is
something that can be done in many forms and settings. The year commenced with the
society representing CIS in the “Beyond the Curtains” competition hosted by the Interact
Club of Royal College. CIS emerged as the Overall Winning school with society members
receiving special awards as well. Afterwards, the newly introduced Theatre Week was held
by the society. Despite it being a virtual performance, actors and actresses were provided
with the opportunity to showcase their talent. Second Term brought the much-anticipated
Inter-house Drama Competition. With all 4 houses having very capable casts and crew, a
production consisting of 4 energetic comedies was successfully developed within the intense
4-week period prior to the show. At the end of the evening, the competition was won by
Yellow House, with Blue House as runners-up. Nevertheless, the experience brought about
a sense of camaraderie and ended up being the highlight of the Drama Society’s year as it
allowed everyone to understand and celebrate their passion for theatre.
Once again, this year has been a very successful one for CIS MUN. The pandemic seemed to
cause more problems than even last year, shuffling the schedules of several conferences, and
postponing many events. With the help of the teachers and the persistent, single-minded drive
of the CIS Delegates, we managed to plough through the relentless challenges to win at every
conference we attended. Starting with MCMUN where we won 7 awards, we went to SLMUN,
where we won another 7 awards. Finally, we rounded off the year with the prestigious
COMUN, where, among others, two delegates managed to get the Best Delegate awards in
their respective committees. The novice delegates have also had a productive year, with this
year’s batch slowly training to step into the shoes of the conference Delegates next year.
Overall, with continuous practice and work, the CIS delegates have maintained and sometimes
surpassed the reputation we have built up at MUN over the years, and we would like to thank
the teachers, students and parents who helped in doing this.
