Here at the Colombo International Schools ICT society, you learn, use, and share knowledge in
many computer-oriented activities such as coding, web designing, robotics, etc., by exploring
the inner workings of computer systems and the arts of programming. The ICT Society has
had many accomplishments through teamwork and dedication. Najaaz Nabhan’s YCS 2021
achievement and Ranuth Senevirathne's achievement at CodeFest presented this. The Senior
Development team of the ICT society has opened pathways for collaboration with the CIS
officials to develop software products for the school. In 2021, Chenuka Garusinghe, Dulakshan
Perera, and Najaaz Nabhan led such projects. Of the two projects, the Electronic Resource
Library transformed how information and resources for the subject matter were discovered in
school. The Virtual Museum platform provides a new experience for students to engage in
Virtual Reality.
Last year like many other societies, we were unable to hold meetings for the chess club
for much of the school year. This year clubs were encouraged to hold meetings online.
We used zoom to interact with each other and sites like chess.com and lichess to play
timed chess games. Using such sites gave us the added ability of being able to solve
chess puzzles as a club, which further improved our pattern recognition and tactical
intuition. Our meetings were enjoyable and also gave us the opportunity to develop our
game. We welcomed a handful of new members and it was a pleasure finally meeting
everyone in person once physical school started.
