Green house
The first play we got to spectate that evening was “A Marriage Proposal”, by
Anton Chekhov, directed by Devishka Chandrasekera. The bar was set high from
the first play itself, for it was a very entertaining play describing one of the most
tedious tasks ever – convincing a father to give his daughter’s hand in marriage.
Conflict broke out over the ownership of the estate leading to a chain of events,
like in every classical drama, we saw words being spun around into false tales for
people’s own desires. Life never stops keeps throwing you challenges, and that’s
seen clearly through Ivan’s character – the gentleman nearly had a heart attack
trying to propose to Natalya (poor Ivan!).

At the end of this theatrical evening, we all saw the awards being handed out to
those who exceptionally performed. The best director award was a tie between
the two yellow house directors Kehara and Haresh. Haresh also won the best
actor award for his exceptional portrayal of George Spelvin – he didn’t fail to
make us laugh! Ayesha and Suha of blue house shared the award for best actress
while Atara of green house won the award for best supporting actor. The award
for best stage manager went to Raid of yellow house.
